SLEEPING FOR A CAUSE

Ten Inverness Way B&B, The Inn for Hikers & Readers, announces a fundraising campaign for Room to Read, a nonprofit organization that partners with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure.

Inspired by Room to Read founder John Wood’s personal journey in his memoir, Leaving Microsoft to Change the World, Teri Mattson and Brett Poirier, innkeepers, are raising funds through their B&B to help build libraries and reading rooms in Asia and South Africa. It is of interest to note that over 770 million adults worldwide are illiterate.

For each night, you stay at the inn, $2.00 will be donated to Room to Read. “We believe today’s travelers want to know that their tourism dollars are doing something more than helping an establishment’s bottom line. Our inn is a great choice for guests wanting to sleep for a cause while visiting the Point Reyes National Seashore”, says Teri. "We have a personal passion for reading and deep belief that open books create open minds."

Ten Inverness Way houses a small library shelved with hundreds of books read over the years and available for guests to enjoy while visiting. Of course, don’t let that stop you from bringing your current reading project when booking your stay. You’ll want to enjoy a good book in front of the living room’s 100-year old fireplace while your tea steeps and the smell of fresh baked cookies drifts in from the kitchen.

Help educate a region of the world hopeful to develop and become part of our global community…by booking your visit today.

Stephanie Scott, Development Associate of Room to Read says of Teri and Brett's participation in their philanthropy: "It is due to the support of individuals such as you that we have been able to achieve so much!
We have opened 287 schools and established over 3,600 bi-lingual libraries and 110 new computer and language rooms. We’ve put more than 2.8 million books into the hands of eager young readers, and are funding long-term scholarships for 2,336 girls. Over 1,200,000 children now have access to enhanced educational infrastructure. Together, we are changing the world through the lifelong gift of education."
